Position Title : Kitchen Attendant

Position Purpose:

To safely prepare and present the full course meals for guests at scheduled times on the Blue Train so as to ensure a

superior culinary guest experience.

Position outputs:

Prepares food ingredients and cooking utensils

  • Obtain menu for the Restaurant Manager and Train Manager
  • Take out the required ingredients from the refrigerator/cupboards as per the measurements
  • Take out cooking utensils from the cupboard and places utensils on working surface
  • Prepare food by measuring, peeling, washing vegetables and other ingredients
  • Prepare food and beverages as per standards recipes and customer requirements

Maintain clean and healthy working environment

  • Maintain clean and healthy working environment
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Ensure dishes and cooking utensils are washed according to the required standards
  • Ensure that all equipment are kept safe and within their safety standards

Competent kitchen staff

  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in good working condition
  • Food storage is managed

Manage stock inventory

  • Check stock levels
  • Check need for stock
  • Order stock
  • Monitor loss, abuse and shrinkage of stock
  • Do stock take at end of journey
  • Do stock take at the end of the financial year

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Grade 8
  • 2 years’ experience in hospitality


Knowledge required:

  • Basic understanding of Safety
  • (able to identify hazards)
  • First Aid level 1
  • Hygiene Kitchen Standard
  • Food Preparation (mis-en-place)
  • Stock inventory

Skills Required:

  • Utilization of kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of kitchen procedures
