ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) operates the world’s largest coal-to-liquids (CTL) facility and produces synthesis gas (syngas) through coal gasification and natural gas reforming, using Sasol’s unique and proprietary Fischer-Tropsch technology to manufacture synthetic fuel components, pipeline gas and chemical feedstock.

To assist the Metallurgical Engineers with the execution of their tasks
To execute any task required by the Laboratory Manager with in your scope of work

The jobs execution is within the Metallurgical testing laboratory and workshop

Technical management of the work done by the laboratory
Achieving the goals set for metallurgical engineering laboratory
Maintaining systems to manage the operation of the laboratory
Ensuring safety systems are in place
Be able to perform physical tasks e.g. replica’s / hardness test on site
Working independently without much supervision
High level of integrity
Deliver quality work
Able to perform mechanical testing
Preparation of samples

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, some positions may require a physical fitness assessment as part of the normal pre-employment selection criteria.
• Driver’s license – Code B

Qualifications

• National Senior Certificate Gr 12 with Maths, Physical science and English

or

• N3 with Maths, Physical Science and English (equivalent to Gr 12 / Matric) (Must)
• Apprentice Artisan Qualification (Boilermaker or fitter) (Wish)

Experience

• Practical metallurgical laboratory experience (Wish)
• Safety-orientated (Must)
• Familiarity with the operation of basic machining equipment and power tools
• Good physical health
• Ability to work under pressure
