Please take note that this is NOT a recruitment process for POLICE TRAINEES. The recruitment process was suspended by the Department due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19).The basic training of new recruits, involves extensive physical contact and with the current COVID-19 restrictions in place, it will not be possible in the current climate to subject new recruits to the basic training curriculum without increasing the risk of exposing them to being infected with COVID-19.

The applicants in question may keep in contact with the relevant Recruitment Offices in the Provinces to enquire on any further pronouncements in this regard.Differences regarding internships and trainee recruitment: Internship:An internship is an opportunity offered to graduates to work for the SAPS for a fixed, limited period of time. Internships are a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work related experience to a student’s field of study or career interest. After completing the 12 month internship, interns will not automatically receive permanent employment in the SAPS.SAPS trainee recruitment:Police recruits undergo a Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) for 24 months when they enlist in the South African Police Service.Integrated assessments and physical training must be completed at a SAPS Training Academy. When police trainees complete the training and are found competent, they are permanently enlisted in the South African Police Service as Constables.
