About Assmang Khumani Mine
Assmang Proprietary Ltd. was founded in the year 1935 in the Republic of South Africa and it has 3 main divisions viz. Manganese, Iron Ore, and Chrome. ARM (African Rainbow Minerals) Ltd. and Assore South African Proprietary Ltd. together own Assmang Proprietary Ltd. and it is listed in the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (South Africa’s largest stock exchange) under the “ARI” symbol. Assore is responsible for marketing and sales operations, whilst ARM looks after technical and admin functions.
The bulk of Assmang’s produce is exported to India, USA, Europe, and Asia.
Khumani and Beeshoek are two of the mines within Assmang’s Iron Ore division. Both are located within Northern Cape Province, South Africa about 200km to the west of Kimberley town.
Khumani is located 30km to the south of Kathu town and up to 65km to the north of Beeshoek mine. Khumani is Assmang’s key producer of iron ore, designed to produce up to 10 million tonnes of highest-quality iron ore annually. Today, it can easily produce up to 14 million tonnes of export-quality iron ore.

Khumani Mine meticulously strives to promote skills, technical knowledge, and education, especially for the region it operates within. To help this objective, Khumani Mine is offering bursaries for the upcoming academic year to financially disadvantaged students who want to pursue any of the degree fields listed below.
Assmang Limited Khumani Iron Ore Mine invites candidates from South Africa to apply for their bursary programme for the academic year 2024.
Bursaries are targeted towards students opting for the following fields:
- Environmental Health
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Electronic Engineering
- Finance
- Logistics
- Geology
- Geo-technical Engineering
- Information Technology
- Instrumentation
- Industrial Engineering
- Metallurgy
- Mining Engineering
- Mine Surveying
- Supply Chain
- Rock Engineering
- Occupational Hygiene
- Occupational Therapy
The bursary aims to cover the following:
- Tuition fees
- Registration fees
- Prescribed books
- Accommodation and meals
Eligibility Criteria
Students willing to apply for the Assmang Khumani Mine Bursary must fulfill the following criteria:
- Must intend to or already study for a full-time course in either of the fields mentioned above
- Must intend to or already be studying at an accredited tertiary institution within South Africa
- Must be willing to pursue a career in the mining sector
- Assmang Khumani will prefer students residing in the Gamagara, John Taolo Gaetsewe, Gasegonayane district, or the Northern Cape Province.

Documents Required
Candidates applying for the Assmang Khumani Mine Bursary 2024 must attach the following documents:
- Certified copies of most recent academic results: Grade 12, 1st year, 2nd year, or 3rd year
- Proof of Provisional Acceptance/Registration Letter of studying at a University or University of Technology in 2024 (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Copy of Municipality Account
- Certified copy of ID document
