Job Summary:
Responsible for overseeing and directing accounting functions on an operational level, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed asset and cost accounting. The role involves analyzing and reconciling detailed general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies, preparing monthly expense reports, and participating in financial data development. Additionally, the Accountant will oversee and prepare entries, adjustments, financial analysis, budget preparation, and rolling forecasts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accounting Functions: Ensure accurate and timely completion of assigned accounting tasks, including reviewing monthly financial reports, reconciling general ledger accounts, and maintaining classified files. Prepare trial balances, balance sheets, income statements, and notes to reports. Participate in the annual audit and manage intercompany loan accounts and shareholder loan schedules.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review 1–3 year budgets and rolling forecasts. Report on financial income, including management and admin fees on rental recoveries, letting commissions on leases, and interest earnings.
- Problem Resolution: Research and resolve accounting errors and discrepancies. Track and resolve accounting problems, ensuring all issues are addressed promptly.
- Communication and Coordination: Maintain regular contact with Operations Managers and Property Managers to obtain information and correct transactions. Keep management informed of area activities and significant issues. Attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Business Relations: Maintain effective relationships with vendors, governmental agencies, and outside business and accounting professionals. Respond to inquiries and problems promptly, ensuring clients are well-informed and that the company’s professional reputation is upheld.
- Ongoing Learning: Stay informed of developments in the accounting field and changing governmental and legal requirements. Complete special projects as assigned and ensure the Accounting Department’s work areas are clean, secure, and well-maintained.
