About African WETU Foundation

African WETU Foundation, or the AWF, is a non-profit organization working towards accelerating access to education in Africa. It runs various programs that enhance the skills and knowledge of underprivileged youths.

Its primary mission is to move more people into education. Completely funded by private donors, it uses donations to mobilize relationships, innovation, and resources to accomplish its mission.

The foundation also has a vision of a better Africa where disadvantaged communities are empowered and educated.

About the AWF Bursary Programme

The African WETU Foundation runs a bursary for students in Africa known as the AWF Bursary. It aims to provide financial support to students who need them to continue their education. More specifically, it’s designed for students who wish to pursue a full-time Master’s degree.

The bursary programme selects a certain number of students every year and rewards financial packages and other benefits.

For the academic year 2022, the programme will help students from the following universities:

  • University of Cape Town (UCT)
  • University of the Western Cape (UWC)
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)

A thing to note here is the bursary is not for all departments of the universities mentioned above.

For the University of Cape Town, only programmes taught at the Faculty of Science: Department of Computer Science and Information System are considered.

Similarly, programmes from the Faculty of Natural Science of UWC are eligible for AWF Bursary 2022.

At CPUT, programmes from the Department of Environmental and Occupational Studies are considered.

The programmes keep on changing every year and don’t stay static.

The bursary will cover the entire tuition cost. And the students are expected to take care of the rest.

Eligibility Criteria of African WETU Foundation 2022

The bursary awards only a certain number of students each year. And they must meet the eligibility criteria laid out by the foundation.

For the 2022 session, eligibility requirements for the AWF bursary programme are:

  • Must be a South African citizen, either by birth or acquired citizenship
  • Must be currently pursuing or completed an Honours Degree or Bachelor of Technology level of education
  • Must be either accepted or intend to study at the universities mentioned above
  • Must have either been accepted for an eligible Masters program or intend to enroll in one of those programs.

Make sure that you meet these eligibility criteria before applying for the bursary. Ineligible applications are discarded.

It’s also important to note that meeting all the eligibility requirements doesn’t guarantee funding. It’s at the sole discretion of the selection committee members.

How to Apply?

If you meet the eligibility requirements, move ahead with the application process. It’s pretty easy and straightforward but does require attention to detail. Below are the steps you need to take to apply for the AWF bursary 2022:

  • Fill out an Online Application Form

The first step is to complete an online application form. It can be accessed on the foundation’s official website or by clicking here.

It’s a two-part form. In the first part, you need to provide your personal details like name, ID no, DOB, address, contact details, among others. In the second part, you need to provide the education details like the name of the degree, the name of the university, etc.

Don’t leave any of the fields blank. Incomplete forms are rejected without a second thought.
