In Africa, the company has been in operation for over 90 years and currently employs 1,000+ people. Some of the industries that BASF serves are health care, construction, agriculture, automotive, and textile. As already mentioned, BASF has been operating in Africa for over 90 years. To address the gender diversity problem in the African labor market, BASF is offering bursaries to black women. This is to encourage more female students to take up science and build their careers in it.

For the academic session 2022, BASF is offering bursaries in the following fields of study:

  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Sciences

The bursaries are meant for black female students who are in need of financial assistance and belong to a previously disadvantaged group. The value varies from student to student and depends on multiple factors. It will cover the following costs:

  • Tuition fees
  • Textbooks
  • Accommodation

Along with that, bursars will receive a monthly stipend for their personal use. The amount will be decided by BASF and communicated to shortlisted candidates via email.

Eligibility Criteria For The BASF South Africa Trust Bursary

To be selected for the bursary programme, applicants must fulfill the eligibility criteria. These are laid out by BASF to select the most deserving candidates. Failing to meet any of the requirements will lead to rejection of your application.

The eligibility criteria for BASF South Africa Trust Bursary 2022 are:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be a woman and ethnically black (as per BBBEE codes)
  • Must be studying towards a qualification in one of the fields of study mentioned above
  • Must be studying at a tertiary institution or university that’s recognised and accredited
  • Must have completed the first year of study in 2021 and is eligible to enter the second year in 2022
  • Must have a proven financial need and meet the funding criteria of NFSAS
  • Must demonstrate a solid academic track record
  • Must have a clean criminal record
  • Must not be receiving aid from any other bursary or scholarship programme

Fulfilling all of the requirements, however, doesn’t guarantee funding. Female students belonging to certain disadvantaged groups will be given preference over others. The list of bursars published by BASF will be considered final.

  • Updated CV (within 3 pages)

You’d also have to write essays on the following topics:

  • The current state of my field of study and how it could evolve in the near future. You’d have to explain how you can contribute to the positive changes.
  • Why you’re the best candidate for the bursary? Explain how the bursary will benefit you and why you deserved to be awarded

Write the essays in a Word document with 12pt font and 1.5 line spacing and save in either Doc/Docx or PDF format. Write within two to four pages.
