Choose Snake for grid rules
Snake stores its body as an ordered list of cells. On each movement step, it adds a head and usually removes the tail. Food changes that rule by retaining the tail. A wall or body-cell match ends the round. This makes growth and collision visible in the same data structure.
Choose Breakout for moving-object collisions
Breakout stores a ball position and velocity along with a paddle and brick records. The ball moves continuously, changes direction after contact, and removes a brick from play when it hits one. Paddle contact also changes the outgoing horizontal velocity, so the player can influence more than the ball’s position.
A useful first experiment
In Snake, change the move interval and notice how much planning time disappears. In Breakout, change paddle width before changing ball speed. Test one variable at a time. Both templates have a complete round lifecycle; preserve it rather than starting a new animation loop after every restart.
