Converse is an American-based global shoe company that produces and sells boots, rubber-soled shoes, athletic footwear, and apparel. Founded in 1908 as Converse Rubber Shoe Company, the company today operates in more than 20 countries.

Converse has various sub-brands, including familiar names like Jack Purcell, Star Chevron, Cons, Chuck Taylor All-Star, and One Star. Since the beginning, the company’s focus has been on the quality and durability of its line of products. Because of this high quality, Nike Inc. bought Converse in 2013.

Converse Bursary 2022

Converse will be awarding nearly R2 million to select students who have taken student loans and want to write it off. This is part of the #KickTheDebt campaign launched by the company.

In South Africa, Skye Distribution will organize the campaign, which will contribute an amount of R2 million towards the campaign. It is a fashion brand distribution company in the South and sub-Saharan African region.

The #KickTheDebt program is open to South African students at the secondary or tertiary level. They must be having an outstanding student loan debt that needs to be cleared in the near future. After screening all the applications and evaluating them based on specific criteria, Skye will select the candidates and pay off the debt. Applicants can also nominate others who are in dire need of clearing off their debt.

Students will have to shoot a few videos with Skye. If selected, these videos will then be used by Converse on its social media handles. Shortlisted candidates will get more information regarding the award value and other details via email.

The amount will be paid directly to the institution where the debt is owed. Please note that you cannot use it for any other purpose. Nor is it transferrable, or negotiable, or exchangeable.

Eligibility Criteria For The Converse Bursary

To select the candidates for the campaign, Skye has laid out specific eligibility criteria. Everyone applying for the funding must fulfill all of the criteria. Failing to do so will lead to immediate rejection of your application. Since the number of application always exceed the amount of funding available, Skye cannot award everyone. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.

The eligibility requirements for this programme are:

• Must be a South African citizen
• Must be residing in South Africa
• Must be in between the age of 13 and 28 at the time of applying
• Must be currently enrolled at a secondary or tertiary educational institution that’s accredited
• Must be in need of proven financial need
• Must have outstanding student fees that the candidate is unable to pay off
• Must have a strong academic track record with an overall average of at least 60%
• Must not be associated or affiliated with Skye or its service providers in any way

Fulfilling all the requirements doesn’t guarantee funding. The final decision regarding the selection rests with Skye.

How to Apply For The Converse Bursary?

To apply for the #KickTheDebt campaign, you must complete the application process by following the steps mentioned below. It’s important to maintain accuracy since incorrect or incomplete submissions are rejected without further consideration.

The first step is to complete an online application form on Converse’s official page. The form asks certain questions about your personal and academic details. Answer all the questions that are marked with an asterisk (*) mark. Also, bear in mind to provide updated and correct information.

Next, you’d have to upload the following documents:

• ID documents
• Most recent outstanding student debt statement
• Latest academic results
• Proof of enrollment
• Proof of financial need

Lastly, you need to shoot a video of yourself explaining why you’re the best candidate for this program. Describe your motivation for applying and waiving off the student loan will help your career. The video should be less than 100 MB.

Review all of the information one last time. Agree to the terms and conditions and submit your application.
