Electrum is a financial technology company focused on payment solutions for retailers, banks, and mobile network service providers. Innovative transaction processing technology for point of sale or remote purchases form the core of Electrum’s business. Electrum works with retail industry heavyweights Clicks, Shoprite, Massmart, and Pick ‘n Pay. It is also collaborating with Capitec Bank, one of South Africa’s newest banking institutions that has grabbed a sizable portion of the market.

To create sustainable pools of computer scientists keeping South Africa on the cutting edge of technological advances, Electrum offers bursaries to second and final year undergraduates studying Computer Science or Computer Engineering at the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University, both located in the Western Cape.

Electrum Academic Bursary 2020

Electrum has a commitment to the development of students with high potential talents and as such, offers three types of scholarship programmes for deserving students. This scholarship helps these students continue their education, specifically in the field of informational technology. These are the bursary programmes:

AAA Academic Bursary Programme

This bursary covers the following costs:

  • Full tuition fees for the student’s last year of qualification
  • Accommodation
  • Textbooks
  • A laptop

Additionally, the successful beneficiaries get the opportunity for an internship intake or even mentorship. They will also have to render work-back service to Electrum for 1 year.

All About Awesome Women in Tech Bursary Programme

Electrum has a commitment to encourage more women to join the field of informational technology. Women who qualify for the bursary through this program will receive the following:

  • Full tuition fees for the student’s last year of qualification
  • Accommodation
  • Textbooks
  • A laptop
  • Career guidance from designated mentors
  • Coaching about job interviews
  • A chance to get help assistance in creating a solid curriculum vitae

Electrum Foundation Bursary Programme

Electrum has established the bursary foundation for the purpose of helping promising yet financially-challenged IT students. With this bursary, they will realize their goals of becoming professionals, especially in the software development field. Those who qualify will receive the following:

  • Book expenses
  • Full tuition fees

Electrum Bursaries Requirements and Eligibility

Before applying, the candidates must first satisfy the minimum requirements. Failure to meet these requirements will result in their application getting disregarded:

AAA Electrum Academic Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • Must study Computer Engineering, Computer Science or any related field of study.
  • Must be currently in their final or second year of honours year or undergraduate studies.
  • Must study at the University of Cape Town or at Stellenbosch University.
  • Must have achieved at least 65% for all modules of Computer Science.
  • Must maintain an average of at least 65%.
  • Must not have failed any of their subjects.
  • Must have good communication skills.

All About Awesome Women in Tech Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • Must be female,
  • Must study Computer Engineering, Computer Science or any related field of study.
  • Must be currently in their final or second year of honours year or undergraduate studies.
  • Must study at the University of Cape Town or at Stellenbosch University.
  • Must have achieved at least 65% for all modules of Computer Science.
  • Female students from a previously-disadvantaged background are highly encouraged to send their applications.
  • Must have good communication skills.

Electrum Foundation Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • Must study Computer Engineering, Computer Science or any related field of study.
  • Must be currently in their second or third year of honours year or undergraduate studies.
  • Must study at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, University of Western Cape or UNISA.
  • Must not have the financial means to fund their studies.
  • Must have good communication skills.
