About Fulbright Foreign Student Programme

The Fulbright Programme was started in 1946 to cultivate bilateral relations where the US works with citizens and governments of other nations in order to develop joint priorities and manage the programme to meet common needs. A 12-member board (called the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, or FFSB), appointed by the incumbent US president, is in charge of supervising the programme.

The FFSB collaborates with various state agencies, including the Public Affairs Sections of US embassies overseas to administer the programme. The Board creates the policies and procedures and holds the final authority in the selection of grantees. It is also responsible for managing the programme in the US and abroad.
