About Mining Qualification Authority

The Mining Qualification Authority or MQA is an educational Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) responsible for the skill development in the South African mining and minerals sector. It runs various skill development programmes to enhance the skill set of the students attending the programmes.

MQA was formed under the Mine Health and Safety Act No.29 of 1996. Later, it was converted to a SETA as per the Skills Development Act No.92 of 1998.

Besides meeting the labor demand, MQA also aims to increase the number of women participation in the mining sector.
