Introduction

Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of MINER to be placed in Matla. The successful candidate will report to the Shift Supervisor. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Job description

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Miner on a coal mining operation
  • Experience in a trackless mechanised mining environment
  • Experience supervising a team
  • Sound knowledge of explosives Experience in trackless mechanised mining
  • Experience in stone work, installation of spin anchors, welded mesh and application of wetcrete
  • Experience in decline development and trackless mechanised mining
  • Experience working with unstable ground conditions and experience in long anchors, and concrete work
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
  • Provide input into monthly planning, as well as planning per shift in consultation with the Shift Supervisor to achieve production targets
  • Direct and supervise drilling and blasting activities per shift
  • Direct the work of reporting Category B employees, conduct daily meetings to discuss health and safety issues and work tasks.
  • Monitor time and attendance, perform quality management activities and complete paperwork required for control purposes and progress reporting
  • Self and team comply with the lock out systems required on machinery and equipment
  • Self and team understand and comply with the MHSA, SHEQ, M&RC and client requirements, procedures, policies and standards
  • Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows
  • Effective team and self-management in alignment with M&RC’s values and leadership initiatives
  • Achieving operational targets and comply with legal regulations of DMR, Client and M&RC

Minimum requirements

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
  • Blasting Certificate (Fiery Mines)
  • Relevant Gas Testing Certificates for Coal Mines (Essential)
  • Numeracy skills (Essential)
  • Valid First Aid certificate (If not available, obtain on on-boarding)
  • Supervisory, planning and organising skills
  • Proficient in English both verbal and written Proficient in MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Excellent planning, organising and monitoring skills, and Proficient in English both verbal and written
