Job DescriptionRCL FOODS is searching for a Commercial Manager to join our Baking Business Unit located in Pretoria West. The purpose of the role is to provide commercial support and insights to the Commercial Director and Managing Director of the Baking Business unit, through effective management of the reporting, strategy, capital planning, budgeting and forecasting process of the Business unit.

The successful incumbent will need to consolidate the commercial outputs received from the operating units, as well as be the central touchpoint between group and the business unit with regards to commercial reporting. Consolidate, analyse and give commercial insights to the financial performance of the Business Unit.

Minimum RequirementsBCOM and CA (SA) or CIMA (non-negotiable)

Experience working in a cross functional manufacturing business

Minimum 10 years’ experience, including commercial costing, operational financial support and reporting and strategic management processes

Syspro experience would be advantageous as would exposure to a FMCG environment

Duties & ResponsibilitiesStrategy Contribution and Execution

Coordinate and participate in the formulation and implementation of the Baking commercial strategy, based on a 2 to 5 year view of requirements.

Ensure that assigned and agreed strategic targets are operationalised and achieved.

Ensure that the agreed SIA is implemented through team targets and that these targets align cross functionally within area of responsibility.

Provide and promote the commercial perspective in the overall growth strategy.

Work closely with the senior leadership and cross-functional management teams to ensure the delivery of an integrated commercial strategy and to identify commercial opportunities.

Management Reporting

Provide valuable performance analysis and reporting to senior stakeholders on a timely basis, including profitability analysis, capital expenditure reporting and analysis

Consolidated reporting of Baking performance, including key indicators on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

Monthly reporting of financial performance in the agreed format which will include commentary on key performance areas.

Driving and reporting on any action items/and or updates.

Identify opportunities for value added reporting to improve the quality and content of reporting and message management.

Creation of key ROIC driver visibility platforms and assist the business in driving improvements.

Business Plan Process and Forecasting

Co-ordination of the annual business plan and quarterly forecasting processes in accordance with the corporate calendar and guidelines.

Compile and review results of the business plan and sales forecasting processes, including volume and distribution revenue analysis.

Provide insight and interpret the impact of key cost drivers on profitability.

Reporting of the business plan and forecasts according to the formats supplied by Group.

Interpretation of the final outcome of the business plan and forecasts ensuring that it reflects the strategic objectives of the business and initiating changes where necessary.

Maintain clear understanding of internal and external events which may impact business performance e.g. Strategic ability, Capacity, Competitor industry economics

Conduct regular business strategy reviews and report to the Board on:

–              current and historical performance

–              market positioning

–              competitor analysis and pricing

–              growth strategy and opportunity

–              margin improvement opportunities.

Strategic Project Appraisal and Feasibility Assessment

Drive the appraisal and feasibility assessment of all new Baking Strategic projects and provide commercial insight and capacity to the Customer, Operations and Commercial/Finance functions.

Challenge the apparent opportunities offered by new projects.

Use back of match box calculations to determine feasibility and shoot down unfeasible project proposals at the “what if” stage.

Ensure projects are costed accurately and profitably.

Profitability & Business Analytics, Information and Data Management

Drive enhanced business profitability and performance information designed to unlock margin opportunities and influence improved contributions.

Identify opportunities for value added reporting to improve the quality and content of reporting and message management.

Development of a central business performance and tracking platform, through innovative reporting tools and business analytics

Share relevant data with senior management teams to enable reliable business decision making.

Commercial Insight and Technical Expertise

Provide calculations, detailed analysis, presentations and associated recommendations emanating from any and all queries that arise as a result of changes in business operations, the economic climate or potentially might offer more profitable solutions.

Provide expertise in management team meetings to internal clients and colleagues and recommend solutions based on insights and findings.

Provide practical commercial expertise and insights to the Baking Exec and run with any ad hoc business performance enhancement requests.
