Sasol Bursaries

While Sasol is dedicated to its business commitment, it also strives to fulfill its social responsibility of paying back to the nation. In a quest to do so, they offer bursaries to the talented youth of the country so that they may achieve their academic goals and take the nation on to the path of success.

Sasol bursaries are offered towards full-time study in the field of engineering and science. Once a candidate completes the study he may also be employed at the Sasol group through its Graduate Development Program.

Sasol bursaries aim to provide both financial and development/mentorship support to the students. The following bursaries are offered by Sasol to the interested candidates.

  1. Undergraduate Bursaries- Undergraduate bursaries are provided for full-time studies towards a bachelor’s degree (BSc or BEng) at any South African University. The following fields are covered under this program:
    • Engineering- Including chemical, electronic, mechanical, civil, computer, industrial, mining engineering courses.
    • Science- Includes Honors degree for chemistry, Geology, and Metallurgy
  1. University of Technology- The University of Technology bursary is granted to those students who want to study a National Diploma or Bachelor of Technology at the University of Technology across South Africa for S1 level of study. It covers fields like process instrumentation, mine surveying, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
  2. Post Graduate- Such bursaries are granted towards studying full-time Science and Engineering at Master or Ph.D. degree level.

Sasol Bursaries Requirements and Eligibility

Students must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

For Undergraduate Bursaries:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Must be in Matric or completed Matric
  • Science students must intend to study towards an Honors degree
  • One must have the interest to study towards a bachelor’s degree in the fields mentioned above
  • Students must be willing to study at an accredited University and not a private one
  • Matric students or 1st-year students must achieve a minimum result of 70% (mathematics and Physical Science), 60% for English, 60% and passed for other subjects
  • Students currently in and passed 1st year must obtain a minimum result of 50% for all the subjects registered in 2019

For University of Technology:

  • Students must be a citizen of South Africa
  • One must have completed Matric or be in Matric currently
  • Students are required to obtain minimum of 60% results in Mathematics, Science, and English in Matric
  • One must be willing to study a Diploma or Degree at an accredited university in South Africa
  • Students must be starting level S1.

For Postgraduate University:

  • One must a South African citizen
  • Students must have completed Matric
  • One should have completed an undergraduate qualification
  • Must have a good academic record
  • Applicants must not have any criminal record
  • Students must be willing to study at an accredited university
  • One must be intending to study full-time towards Masters or Ph.D. degree

How to Apply and Application Details

Students are required to register an account at https://sasolbursaries.com/register. Once the account is registered and the email is verified, one can log in at https://sasolbursaries.com/login and fill up the application form carefully and honestly.

Along with the application form, students must attach the following documents:

  • Certified Id document
  • Latest Matric result and Grade 11 final results (certified copy)
  • Certified tertiary records, if applicable
  • Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance from University or University of Technology
  • Postgraduate students need to submit a research project proposal and a summary of the proposed project

Incomplete, late applications, applications by e-mail and/or not submitted through the official Sasol website will be rejected.
