About SAIV

SAIV or South African Institute of Valuers is a society of real estate valuers in the country. Founded way back in 1909, it also happens to be one of the oldest societies in South Africa.

SAIV’s aim is to serve, advance, and protect the valuation industry in the country by bringing together professionals in the field under one roof. It then provides education and mentorship to its members that enhance their knowledge and expertise. This is overall good for the industry.

To benefit the sector, SAIV also offers bursaries to meet the labor demand.

South African Institute of Valuers (SAIV) Bursary Overview

South African Institute of Valuers is offering the SAIV bursary to a certain number of students studying towards a property valuation qualification. Students both at the undergrad and postgrad level can apply for the bursary.

For the academic year 2022 as well, SAIV will select certain students for the bursary. SAIV Bursary 2021 – 2022 is now open for eligible applicants.

South African Institute of Valuers Bursary

The bursary will pay for one academic year initially. Based on the academic performance of the current year, it can be extended for the next year.

Bursary recipients must submit progress reports to the General Manager for evaluation. The funding will largely depend on academic performance, among other factors.

The amount for the bursary also varies. It depends on the needs of a particular student and the quotation received from the tertiary institution. The amount is transferred directly into the institution’s account, which pays for your tuition cost. Students are expected to cover the rest of the expenses like accommodation and travel.

As part of the bursary benefits, students will receive mentorship from experienced valuers. They will learn the ins and outs of property valuation and gain a better understanding of the industry. All of these will help them get employed soon after graduating.

SAIV Bursary Eligibility Criteria

Not everyone can apply for the SAIV bursary. There are specific eligibility criteria laid out by the society that you need to meet. Since SAIV receives a high number of applications, it rejects those that do not fulfill the criteria. So before applying, cross-check the requirements and ensure that you meet them.
