[ad_1]

Despite financial constraints, many students are able to complete their post-graduate education because of bursaries. In South Africa (and around the world), the cost of a PG degree is rather expensive. One of the scholarships is the SANSOR bursary which provides financial assistance to needy students in South Africa.

It is available to only a specific group of students. If you’re looking to apply for it, learn who are and aren’t eligible for it. This article explains what the scholarship is all about, the eligibility criteria, and the application process.

About the SANSOR Bursary

The bursary is designed to assist students in completing their post-graduate education in the seed industry. The post-grad education can be either pursuing Honours, Masters, or Doctorate.

The scholarship offers full coverage of the tuition fees, including those costs that will go towards conducting research.

SANSOR stands for South African National Seed Organization. Established in 1989, it aims to prepare the future generation for the South African seed industry. The first seed industry group was formed in 1940, known as South African Seedmen’s Association, and it contributes significantly to the seed development in the country.

SANSOR and other organizations are working towards the future of seed development, and this scholarship is a component of it.

The areas covered in the seed industry include the following:

  • Biotechnology
  • Entomology
  • Genetics
  • Horticulture
  • Molecular Plant Biology
  • Pasture Science
  • Plant Breeding
  • Agronomy
  • Plant Pathology
  • Plant Physiology

Besides the education, the students are also exposed to real-life scenarios, which makes them job-ready. This is done through workshops and field trips to seed manufacturing facilities. Thus, they find it easier to land a job after graduating.

The scholarship is merit-based and limited. Furthermore, it is awarded for a period of one year initially. And it will only be renewed for the subsequent years if the performance for the first year was deemed satisfactory.
