About Tomorrow Trust

A South African nonprofit to assist orphaned and disadvantaged children, The Tomorrow Trust. The Trust seeks to assist underprivileged children by providing them with education and life skills, enabling them to realise their full potential and contribute actively to society.

The programme includes the following:

  • The Saturday and Holiday Programme for junior as well as senior grade students.
  • The Tertiary Programme gives bursaries for degree-level study programmes.
  • The Shift Programme trains students for different skills required in the workplace.
  • “I am little wings” Programme which focuses on the educational and psychosocial gaps among young people from vulnerable and orphaned households.
  • The Stepping Stones Career Programme is designed to help students identify and select a professional path.
  • The Alumni Programme combines all previous Tomorrow Trust recipients.

Tomorrow Trust Bursary 2023

The Tomorrow Trust Bursary is providing an opportunity for students to apply for this bursary programme for the upcoming academic year of 2023.

The bursary is applicable for areas of study at both Honors and Undergraduate Degree levels at any of the following institutions:

  • University of the Witwatersrand
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of Pretoria
  • Stellenbosch University
  • Rhodes University
  • University of Cape Town

The bursary will provide the following benefits:

  • Bursary that covers all or part of the following costs:
    • tuition
    • books
    • living expenses
    • food
    • transportation
  • In-house psychologists to provide academic and psychosocial support
  • Monthly workshops help the participants develop the skills needed for both personal and professional success.
  • Network possibilities.
  • Vacation employment Experiences in Work Readiness.
  • Volunteer options at Tomorrow Trust for students in Grades R through Matric Belonging to a varied community with a wealth of possibilities to learn, develop, and explore.
  • Lifetime alumni status following graduation.

Each applicant will get an email confirming receipt of their application. If your application gets rejected, you will get notified. Before the final selection,  final candidates get an invitation to attend an interview.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must check the eligibility criteria before applying for the scholarship. There should not be any exceptions.

  • You must be a resident of South Africa.
  • Your age must be between 18 to 25 years old.
  • You must have enrolment in or have already completed high school.
  • You must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or an honours degree full-time in 2023, or you must plan on doing one of them. There will be no funding provided for Master’s or PhD courses.
  • You must have received your undergraduate degree between January 2020 and December 2022 for graduates.
  • You must be enrolled in, or plan to enrol in, one of the universities listed below:
    • University of the Witwatersrand
    • University of Johannesburg
    • University of Pretoria
    • Stellenbosch University
    • Rhodes University
    • University of Cape Town

Documents Required

Applicants need to submit all the mandatory documents to submit along with the application. There should not be any missing or false documents.

  • Certified copy of valid ID documents.
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate, if completed.
  • Final Grade 11 report and June Matric report, if presently enrolled (with school stamp).
  • The newest official transcript, if you’re still taking classes.
  • Motivational Letter with the following information: why you chose your area of study and what you plan to do with your degree once you graduate.
  • The guardian or parents’ Proof of income (latest pay stubs if you are employed; an affidavit if they are unemployed; documentation of any SASSA grants or pensions; death certificates or an affidavit if they are deceased). It is all to be combined into 1 single pdf document.
  • For students under the age of 18: a parent or legal guardian must complete and sign a consent form (.docx) to abide by POPI requirements.
  • For students under 18: a certified copy of your parent’s or guardian’s ID.
