Position Purpose:

CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER

Transnet seeks to employ a seasoned, ethical and inspirational Chief People Officer to provide strategic direction and proactively shape the future and position the company to ensure financial sustainability, operational excellence and customer centricity.

As the Chief People Officer, the incumbent is responsible to design, develop, communicate and execute a people management strategy that is critical to the success of Transnet’s business, well able to support the achievement and successful delivery of Transnet’s strategy and mandate. Establish sound relations with employees and organised labour through collaboration and continuous engagement to ensure labour stability and a productive workforce. Lead and guide the development of a positive employment value proposition and employer brand to enable the attraction and retention of required talent and scarce skills Ensure building of the skills and capabilities required to effectively deliver Transnet’s mandate and business performance requirements. Provide HR thought leadership and strategic advice to Transnet Group Exco and senior management within the business.

Position outputs:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and execution of the People Management strategy in support of the

strategic direction of the organization, and enable optimal deployment and utilisation of people;

  • Develop HR strategies and programmes to drive and enable continued business renewal and growth, and the

establishment of an inclusive high-performance culture;

  • Build Transnet’s collective leadership bench strength through effective leadership development programmes;
  • Lead and guide the development of a positive employment value proposition and employer brand that will facilitate the

attraction and retention of talent and scarce skills;

  • Lead change by effectively partnering with the GCE and executive leadership team to communicate new direction and

changes with clear rationale and appeal;

  • Lead and guide the provision of comprehensive People Management services to the organisation and instil a culture of

service delivery excellence within People Management;

  • Formulate the strategies, defined processes and practices for people development, succession, talent and performance

management, well-being, health and safety and remuneration management;

  • Embed the organisational values and instil a high-performance culture within the business;
  • Identify key people risks and develop and institute effective mitigating plans and actions.

Wellness, Health and Safety

  • Implement strategic initiatives and programmes to enable a sustainable and healthy work environment in line with industry

trends and in collaboration with Transnet Operating Divisions;

  • Provide leadership and guidance in the implementation of optimal solutions for wellness, safety, occupational health and

hygiene to Transnet;

  • Promote the development of a healthy-living and safety culture in order to mitigate ill-health and promote employee

productivity;

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

Stakeholder Relations Management

  • Build and maintain stable and productive relationships with employees and organised labour to ensure labour stability and a

productive workforce;

  • Through collaboration and influencing, drive consensus and a common vision and direction across all key constituents

including top management, senior management and employees at all levels;

  • Ensure effective management and maintenance of strategic relations with key stakeholders through consistent

engagement;

  • Engage all key stakeholders continuously, establish mutually beneficial agreements and ensure that obligations are

honoured.Governance and Compliance

  • Safeguard proper governance of People Management by ensuring full compliance of people policies, processes and

practices to relevant legislation in meeting business requirements;

  • Implement effective governance and controls to avoid material audit findings;
  • Monitor and ensure effective management of the People Management budget in accordance with business requirements

and Finance policies and processes.Renewal

  • Manage and ensure continuous improvement of strategy and structure to maintain a beneficial cost/value proposition for the organisation;
  • Monitor key people indicators and other relevant data to ensure the organisation is strategically in good form to achieve its goals;
  • Strengthen the people processes and practices to ensure service delivery excellence.

Team Leadership

  • Coach and mentor the People Management leadership team;
  • Build a credible People Management function that is viewed as a strategic business partner and that is led by a capable,

engaged and motivated team defined by a professional, results-oriented and collaborative environment.Qualifications & Experience:

  • B-degree in Human Resources Management or Social Sciences or relevant is a requirement;
  • At least 15 years’ experience in people management within a large enterprise, of which at least 5-7 years at an executive

leadership level;

  • Seasoned professional with sound knowledge of people management;
  • In-depth insight and understanding of Labour Relations management;
  • Experience with leading major transformation in an organisation;
  • Experience in building a capable and respected HR team and evolved people practices so that HR is viewed as a strategic

and trusted business partner;

  • Able to develop strong, trusting relationships within the organization;
  • Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19.
