Types of internships in South Africa
- Graduate internships — 12 to 24 month programmes for degree or diploma holders to gain workplace experience.
- In-service training — required by many TVET and university diplomas so students can complete their qualification (often called P1 and P2, or work-integrated learning).
- Graduate programmes — structured, often rotational programmes at large employers that fast-track high performers into permanent roles.
Who qualifies?
Most internships require a completed or nearly completed qualification, South African citizenship, and that you are within a few years of graduating. Some are aimed specifically at unemployed graduates.
