Get the subject line right
Recruiters sort dozens of emails a day. Use a clear subject line with the job title and your name, for example: "Application: Admin Clerk (Ref 123) – Nomsa Dlamini". If there is a reference number, include it.
Structure of a strong application email
- Greeting — "Dear Hiring Manager" or the named contact.
- Opening line — state the job and where you saw it.
- Middle — two or three sentences on why you fit the key requirements.
- Closing — note your attachments, availability, and thank them.
- Signature — your name and cellphone number.
Attach the right documents
- Attach your CV as a PDF named with your full name.
- Include any documents the advert asks for (ID, certificates, Z83 for government).
- Keep total attachment size reasonable so it does not bounce.
