How SAPS salaries are structured
SAPS uses a rank-based salary system. Each rank has a salary notch range, and officers progress through notches with experience. Allowances for danger, shift work, housing and medical aid are added on top of the base salary.
Key benefits
- Government pension (GEPF) with employer contributions.
- Medical aid subsidy (POLMED or Government Employees Medical Scheme).
- Housing allowance.
- Danger allowance.
- Annual uniform allowance.
- Shift and overtime allowances.
Specialisation opportunities
Detectives, forensic specialists, the Hawks (DPCI), K9 units, and special task force members may earn additional allowances beyond the standard rank salary.
