PSIRA grades explained
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) grades officers from E (entry) up to A (most senior). Higher grades unlock better-paid roles. Your grade, the area you work in, and whether the post is armed all affect your wage, which is set by a sectoral determination.
Higher-paying security roles
- Armed response officers — require a firearm competency certificate.
- Cash-in-transit — higher risk, higher pay.
- Close protection (bodyguard) — specialised training, premium rates.
- Control room operators — CCTV and alarm monitoring.
