Purpose of Job

To ensure that all rotating equipment maintenance, repair, refurbishment/reconditioning, installation and commissioning activities are executed in accordance with OEM requirements, Sasol engineering standards, quality specifications, statutory requirements and international best practices.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that maintenance interventions deliver reliable equipment, minimise repeat failures and improve plant availability through effective quality assurance and quality control processes.

Key Accountabilities

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all rotating equipment maintenance complies with OEM specifications.
  • Verify maintenance activities against approved Repair Work Sheets (RWS).
  • Ensure inspection and quality control plans are followed.
  • Verify quality intervention points before work progresses.
  • Ensure correct tolerances and clearances are maintained.

Inspection

Perform quality inspections during:

  • Equipment strip-down, Dimensional inspections, Shaft inspections, Bearing inspections, Mechanical seal inspections, Coupling inspections, Rotor inspections, Gear inspections, Casing inspections, Final assembly inspections and Commissioning inspections 

Assembly Verification

Verify

  • Bearing fits, Shaft run-out, Rotor balance certificates, Coupling alignment, soft foot corrections, Torque values, Bolt tightening sequence, Seal installation, Lubrication systems and Auxiliary systems

Documentation

Review and approve

  • Quality Control Plans, Inspection Reports, Alignment Reports, Balancing Reports, Vibration Reports, Clearance Sheets, OEM Service Reports, Commissioning Reports, Certificate of Conformity (COC) and Final Quality Dossier

Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate repeat failures.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Recommend quality improvements.
  • Improve maintenance work practices.
  • Develop quality standards.
