Purpose of Job

Provide specialist technical support, maintenance, optimization, commissioning, and reliability assurance for Fire & Gas Detection Systems, SCADA platforms, PLCs, emergency Voice Evacuation systems, and associated critical safety infrastructure. Ensure maximum system availability, compliance with Sasol standards, and safe operation of safety-critical systems.

Key Accountabilities

SCADA Systems (Adroit)

• Maintain and configure Adroit SCADA servers and clients.
• Develop and modify:
• Graphics
• Alarm pages
• Trends
• Historian configurations
• Cause & Effect displays
• Perform alarm rationalization and system optimization.
• Ensure cybersecurity, redundancy, and network integrity.

PLC Systems

• Configure and maintain:
• Omniflex PLCs
• Mitsubishi PLCs (where applicable)
• Associated I/O and communication infrastructure
• Execute logic modifications and system upgrades.
• Troubleshoot communication protocols and network interfaces.

Project & Technical Governance

• Review and develop:
• Scope of Work (SOW)
• Technical specifications
• BOQs
• Technical justifications
• Support:
• Capital projects
• Modifications
• MOC processes
• System roadmaps
• Perform QA/QC on installations and upgrades.

Fire & Gas Systems

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize:
• Fixed gas detection systems
• Smoke detection systems
• Fire & Gas push buttons
• Fire suppression interfaces
• Voice evacuation PA Systems
• Perform:
• Functional testing
• Calibration oversight
• Cause & Effect verification
• SAT/FAT activities
• Loop checks and commissioning support
• Investigate system failures and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

Reliability & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with:
• SANS standards
• Sasol Engineering Standards
• SHE requirements
• Critical Systems governance requirements
• Conduct installation audits and verification inspections.
• Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and work instructions.

Leadership & Stakeholder Support

• Provide technical leadership during complex maintenance activities.
• Mentor technicians and contractors.
• Interface with:
• Operations
• Maintenance
• Projects
• OEMs
• Service providers
• Provide monthly and quarterly system performance reporting.

Forma Education

National Diploma in: 

• Electrical Engineering;
• Electronic/ Control Systems Engineering;
• Trade qualification beneficial.

Working Experience

Minimum 9 years relevant experience, at least:

• 5 years with PLC, DCS, or SCADA systems;
• 3 years with Emergency / Fire & Gas systems;
• 1 year with industrial networks and communications.
